Jacob has The Ear Infection That Won't Go Away. This is due in no small part to the fact that he and anti-biotics do not get along, or any medicine for that matter. We're going on a month now of chasing him down, wrestling with him and injecting it into his mouth, only to have him spit it out about half the time.
I don't blame him. Bactrim is foul.
This is one of the things that makes parenting J Boy very difficult. As a parent, keeping your kids healthy is a responsibility that is so basic it hardly needs pointing out. When he doesn't take medicine and won't eat properly because of food aversions, his health is compromised and we are unable to fulfill this very basic requirement. Our only recourse at this point is to keep taking him back to the doctor (for which he has no insurance) and keep trying to find a medicine he will take.
We know he will swallow amoxicillin, the problem is that it didn't work very well on the first round. Our pediatrician is very considerate of the fact that J Boy does not have insurance and prescribes antibiotics that are free at our local pharmacy, but I think we need to broaden the range of medicine he can take to something effective that doesn't taste like grape-flavored cockroaches. When I can't demonstrate to J Boy that it really tastes good without gagging myself, we have purple anxietytexturetasteaversion soup bubbling over all over the floor. And an icky ear that won't heal itself.
I had a similar problem with my youngest, who was prone to invisible ear infections. She learned how to take pills very young, for the anxietytexturetasteaversion was hell for all of us. Have you/can you explore this option? Best of luck to you all.

We've tried it with tylenol and it worked for awhile until he no longer believed it was candy. He's smart, my boy!
